Work begins on the new Virtus sports hall, Zanetti: “We have been dreaming of this day for 6 years”
Bologna, 25 June 2025 – Work has begun on the construction of the new multifunctional pavilion at the Fiera : the first stone was laid today for what in a year and a half will also become the new home of Virtus Bologna , and more.
The structure, built thanks to an investment by BolognaFiere exceeding 70 million euros , will have a capacity of approximately 10,500 spectators . Modular, flexible and highly energy efficient, it will be located in the area of the current pavilion 35 , in a strategic position between Piazza Aldo Moro and Viale della Fiera.
On the sidelines of the press conference that marked the start of construction of the new black and white arena - which will also host the 2026 Davis Cup finals, an event that should officially inaugurate the new sports palace - the patron of the Black Vs, Massimo Zanetti , spoke.
Among the topics covered in his speech was the Virtus transfer market , which officially began last night with the arrival of the Argentine Luca Vildoza , who spent last season at Olympiakos , and whose signature arrived during the night, as stated by Zanetti himself.
“I confirm the arrival of Vildoza, his name had already come out in the past few days and last night the signature arrived – he comments -. And he is not the only one: there is also an Italian, who I hope will come, but I can't say anything yet…”.
While on the future of captain Belinelli he expressed himself like this. "I heard him yes, he will stay with us , let's see in what guise. Sponsor? We are even arriving there too , I am confident of making it for sure".
And then the new Casa Virtus : a dream that after more than 6 years will become reality. “Finally, we have been following this goal since 2019 and from today we will complete it, to give a dress to our Virtus with pride in Europe . When I go around the continent the others have incredible arenas, so it was good that Virtus also had one and we are proud of it. It is something I have always wanted . The Fair and President Calzolari have been very good, also because making an investment today at these figures is not easy, the costs have risen exponentially. But since we started with the project it has been a continuous growth. When will the first match be played in the new arena? At the end of November, beginning of December 2026: first there will be the Davis finals, then it will be Virtus' turn”.
